Obituary of William T. "Bill" O'Neil

William T. “Bill” O’Neil, 82, of Peabody, husband of Velia T. (Mondugno) O’Neil, died on Tuesday, July 19, 2011 with his family at his side at the Lighthouse Nursing Care Center in Revere. Bill was born in Peabody on January 17, 1929 son of the late Peter J. and Edith (Coan) O’Neil. He was raised and educated in Peabody and was a lifelong resident. During the Korean conflict he served in the Army National Guard. Bill was employed by the City Of Peabody as Superintendent of Sanitation a position he held for 25 years. He was also employed as a sales consultant at H. Paulino & Sons, and past owner of O’Neil Enterprises, Inc., in the fields of general contracting and landscaping in Peabody. Bill was a loving father who devoted his life creating a home for his family, and was so proud of his grandchildren and their accomplishments. Later, the greatest joy of his life was his 5 great grandchildren. He and Velia wintered in Florida, enjoyed traveling, and he loved playing cards. He was a life member of the Elks Lodge 1409 and the Peabody Kiwanis Club in Peabody. In addition to his wife Velia with whom he shared 35 years of marriage, he his survived by his children, Ellen L. O’Neil and her partner John Manning, William T. “Bill” O’Neil, Jr., Denise M. Tempesta, and Frank N. D’Amico, Jr., all of Peabody; 5 granddaughters and their spouses, Lauren and Tim Furlong of Lynn, Doreen and Sotirious Exarchos and Danielle Tempesta both of Peabody, Valerie and Peter Sutherland of Lynn, and Nicole and John Ternullo of Wakefield, 5 great grandchildren, Kyle, Erin, Jessica, Madison and Mason; many nieces, nephews and friends. He was predeceased his brothers, Walter and Peter O’Neil. His funeral will be held on Saturday, July 23, 2011 at 9 a.m. from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Ann Church, 140 Lynn St., Peabody. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours are Friday, July 22, 2011 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial in St. Joseph Cemetery, Lynn.
