Ida (Champy) Bettencourt
PEABODY—Ida (Champy) Bettencourt, 87, beloved wife of the late Joseph Bettencourt, died early Sunday morning July 17, 2011 at the Beverly Hospital while surrounded by her family, following an extended illness.
Born in Lawrence, she was the daughter of the late Grimoldo and Olga (Vellosa) Champy. She grew up in Lawrence, and lived many years on the North Shore in Peabody. She lived at Blueberry Hill Skilled Nursing and Rehab Center in Beverly the last few years.
Mrs. Bettencourt enjoyed nurturing her family, and developed her skills in baking. In her younger years, Ida was well-known throughout the North Shore for her amazing cake decorating business. She also worked for several years at Vic’s Catering as a pastry chef. A great joy for her was the love she had for her two dogs.
She is survived by her twin daughters, Paula Landry of Gloucester and Sandra Seeley & her husband Peter Seeley of Boca Raton, FL and Magnolia, MA; three grandchildren, Jodi A. Fitzgerald & her husband Jerry Fitzgerald of Peabody, Peter Seeley, Jr. & his wife Lisa Seeley of Boca Raton, FL, and Lynne Seeley Bohan & her husband Ned Bohan of Swampscott; eight great-grandchildren, Abby, Emma, and Olivia Fitzgerald, Katelyn Bohan, Haley J. Seeley, and Paige, Jayson, and Zack DeSimone, and she leaves many nieces and nephews. Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved sister Antoinette Tombarello formerly of Methuen, and brothers Leonard and Guido Champy both formerly of Lawrence.
A private, family Funeral Service will be held at Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody. Please honor her memory with expressions of sympathy with memorial donations to the Cape Ann Animal Aid Association, Inc., 260 Main St., Gloucester, MA 01930. Funeral planned with Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, Peabody.
