Obituary of Robert J. O'Connor

Robert J. O’Connor, 86, of Peabody, died unexpectedly on Friday morning at his home. He was the devoted husband of Katherine (Palen) O’Connor with whom he shared over 46 years of marriage. Born in Peabody, he was the son of the late John and Marie (Kingston) O’Connor. He was a life time resident of Peabody and a graduate of Peabody High School. He received his bachelor’s degree at St. Anselm’s College in New Hampshire. Robert was a veteran of Word War II who served with the United States Navy and was honorably discharged in 1946. After the war, Robert worked as an engineer for Boston & Maine Railroad for over 30 years before retiring. After retiring from the railroad, Robert worked part time as a starter at Bill Flynn’s Far Corner golf course in West Boxford for many years. Robert was a long time member of the Salem Country Club in Peabody and was club champion in 1963 and 64. Besides his loving wife Katherine, he is survived by a daughter, Carol O’Connor and her fiance, Gary Wenzel, both of Andover. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his step son, Edward. His funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 8:00 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. John’s Church, Peabody at 9:00 AM to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Monday from 4 – 8 PM. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem.
