Obituary of Rose B. (Mello) Crawford

Rose B. “Rosie” (Mello) Crawford, 83, of Peabody, died with her family at her side on Tuesday, August 9, 2011 at Salem Hospital. Rosie will now be reunited with her late husband Cecil R. “Chick” Crawford with whom she shared 49 wonderful years of marriage. Mrs. Crawford was born in Peabody on January 12, 1928 daughter of the late Joseph and Rose (Silva) Mello. She was raised and educated in Peabody and was a lifelong resident of the city. Rosie was employed for many years as a waitress at Three Coins in the Fountain and the Guttenberg Press restaurants in Salem until it’s closing. Prior to her retirement in 1998, she had been employed in the same capacity at the Hilltop Restaurant in Saugus. Rosie was a loving mother who devoted her life to creating a home for her family and was so proud of her 12 grandchildren and their accomplishments. Later, she was blessed with her 9 great grandchildren whom she adored. As hobbies she enjoyed playing bingo and cards, spending time with her family , shopping, crocheting and loved listening to original country music and playing the slots at Foxwoods and Los Vegas. Rosie is survived by her children and their spouses, Rosemary and Frank Foley, Robin and Howard Clickstein, Chris and Deborah Crawford, Cindy and Dean Hennessey and Lawrence Cato all of Peabody; 2 sisters, Grace Condon of MD, and Alice Kingston of Salem; 12 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and dear friends. She was predeceased by 12 brothers and sisters. Her funeral will be held on Friday, August 12, 2011 at 11 a.m. in the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours are on Thursday August 11, 2011 from 4:00 until 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
