Obituary of Gertrude M. Travers

Peabody, January 27, 2003. Gertrude M. Aunt Trudy Travers, 94, formally of 60 Proctor Circle, Peabody, died early Monday morning at the Rosewood Nursing Home following a brief illness. Born in Salem, She was the daughter of the late Joseph and Katherine (Smerczynski) Twarogowska. She was raised in Salem and attended Salem Public Schools. She was a well-known Milliner and Hat Shop owner in Salem on St. Peter Street and Essex Street. She was a Hat Fashion Show Coordinator for numerous churches, schools, and Women’ s Club’ s in Salem, Peabody, Beverly, and Lynn. She was a member of the Salem Professional and Business Woman’ s Club, the Zonta Club, and Leo Guild of Peabody, AARP, Friends of the Peabody Council on Aging. She was the Past 1st Vice President of the Peabody Women’ s Club. She leaves a brother, Joseph Travers of Beverly, MA, and several nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews and a great grand nephew and a great grand niece. She was the sister of the late Raymond Travers, Melba Kobuszewski, Marie Gaieski, and Esther Farrington. Her Funeral service will be held on Thursday at 11:00 AM at St. John’ s Church, Peabody to which relatives and friends are invited to attend. Burial in St. Mary’ s Cemetery, Salem.
