Obituary of Mary C (Bowers) MacDougall

Mary C. (Bowers) MacDougall, 79, of Salem, died early Saturday morning at the Kindred Hospital in Peabody following a long illness. She was the devoted wife of the late Donald MacDougall. Born in Lowesville, West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Ronald and Helen (Szalkowski) Bowers. Her family moved when she was a young girl to Peabody and then later she settled in Salem where she had lived for many years. Mary was a Licensed Practical Nurse who attended school at Beverly Hospital and upon her graduation continued to work there, and then she moved on to the former J.B. Thomas Hospital in Peabody and finally, before retiring, she was at the Brooke House in Salem. Mary was quick witted, loving and compassionate who loved being with people and taking care of their needs. She was a beautiful woman with beautiful eyes and her family would like to thank all of the nurses at Kindred ICU unit for their kind and gentle way they treated their mother and family. She is survived by three loving sons, Donald MacDougall, Jr., and his wife Lynn of Amesbury, John MacDougall and his companion, Jocelyn Talbot of Maine, and Thomas MacDougall of Salem, her two loving daughters, Cathy Oliver of Salem and her companion, Richard St. Amour, and Lois and her husband Jamie Hughes of Salem, and is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren, and by several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Vera Leavitt. Her Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday at 10:00 at the Calvary Baptist Church, Coolidge Rd, Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 20 Church Street, Peabody. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody.
