Obituary of Dorothy J. (Desmond) Nelson

Dorothy Josephine (Desmond) Nelson, 89, of Peabody, died early Friday morning at the Golden View Health Care Center in Meredith, NH following a brief illness. She was the devoted wife of the late James Carl Nelson. Born in Peabody, she was the daughter of the late Daniel and Josephine (Blute) Desmond. She was a life long resident of Peabody and a graduate of Peabody High School, class of 1939. Dorothy was a member of the ladies sodality at both St. Johns Church and St. Ann’s Church, both in Peabody. She was also a member of the Sine Nomine Club of Peabody. Following her husband’s retirement, she spent her winters in Florida and her summers in New Hampshire. Dorothy enjoyed golfing, skiing, and, above all else, spending time with her family and friends in New Hampshire. She is survived by three sons, Richard Nelson of Peabody, Donald Nelson of North Woodstock, NH, and Paul Nelson of Hooksett, NH, three daughters, Phyllis Connelly of Alton Bay, NH, Patricia Pierce of Alton Bay, NH and Mary Ellen Nelson of Gilford, NH. She is loved by 15 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late William, John, and Robert Desmond and Eileen Annis. She is survived by her sister, Elinor Connolly of Salem. Services will be held at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody. Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, August 21, 2011 from 4:00 until 8:00 PM. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Ann’s Church on Monday, August 22, 2011 at 10:00 AM, followed by a burial service at Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody
