Obituary of James B. Mc Vann

James B. “Micky” Mc Vann, 93, of Lynn died peacefully Saturday, August 20th at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers after a long illness. He was the devoted husband of 66 years to the love of his life, Josephine “Jo” (Zielinski) Mc Vann. He was born in Peabody, MA on May 9, 1918, the son of the late Hugh J. and Margaret (McLaughlin) McVann and was educated here graduating from Peabody High School , class of 1936. He graduated from Boston Trade School in 1939. Jim was an avid golfer and a member of the Bear Hill Golf Club in Stoneham for 46 years and had served as the club president in 1978-1979 and as a director for 21 years. He had been a life member of the of Lynnfield council, 3745 of the Knights of Columbus and also the J.F.KennedyAssembly 4th Degree Knights of Columbus. Jim served in WW 11 with the US Navy aboard the U.S.S. Daedalus, a repair ship as an electrician and was a member of the Amphibious Veterans of MA. Following the war, he was employed as a general foreman electrician for 36 years at the Boston Naval Shipyard retiring in 1976 when the shipyard closed. He then worked at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in NH and then for 20 years with the Lytron Inc. in Woburn, MA as a licensed electrician retiring in 2000. He had been a member and an usher at Our Lady of Assumption, Lynnfield for over 40 years. Surviving him besides his wife Josephine are a sister-in-law, Marguerite (McIntire) McVann of Peabody and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Hubert “Buddy” Mc Vann, John McVann, Marguerite Byron and Gertrude Doherty. A Family Service was held at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem on Tuesday, August 23, 2011. A memorial Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Assumption Church, Lynnfield at a later date.
