Obituary of Edward J. Flynn Sr.
Edward J. Flynn, Sr., 87, of Peabody and Tewksbury, died peacefully at home on Friday, September 02, 2011 surrounded by his family. He was the devoted husband of the late M. Eleanor (Cahill) Flynn.
Born in Peabody, he was the son of the late Edward and Alice (Merrion) Flynn. He was raised and educated in Peabody attending St. John’s Grammar School and was a graduate of Peabody High School, class of 1941. Ed proudly served as a sergeant in the United States Army during World War II in Saipan and Tinian in the Mariana Islands.
He was a graduate of Boston College in 1952. He then spent his career at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Brighton as a Personnel Director and later at McLean Hospital in Belmont where he was the Manager of Benefits and Compensation. He was a member and past president of the MHHRA.
Edward is survived by his three sons and two daughters-in-law, Edward J.and Christine Flynn Jr. of Peabody, Richard and Paula Flynn of Londonderry, NH, Frederick Flynn of Danvers, his daughter and son-in-law, Eleanor Flynn Salvucci and Joseph Salvucci of Tewksbury, his six beloved grandchildren, Kathryn Flynn of New York City,, Julie and Stephen Flynn of Londonderry, NH, Sarah and Christopher Flynn of Danvers and Jen Salvucci of Tewksbury. He is also survived by his brother-in-law and his wife, Gerard and Nora Cahill of St. John’s, Newfoundland, and his very special nieces and nephews, Ed and Toni Sullivan of Florida, Kevin and Sue Sullivan of Mansfield, Kathie and Bill Leader of Medfield, Helen Sullivan of Peterborough, NH, John Croke of Fairfield, CT, Fred and Doreen Cahill, Moya Cahill and her husband Paul Gaudet and Nora and Pierre Gauvreau all of St. John’s Newfoundland. He was predeceased by his sister and brother-in-law, Helen and Mike Sullivan, his niece, Ann Croke, a brother-in-law, Rev. Frederick Cahill CSB, and his sisters-in-laws Joan Cahill and Frances Berrigan.
A Visitation will be held on Monday, September 5, 2011 at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 82 Lynn St. Peabody facility from 4:00 until 8:00 PM. His funeral will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2011 at 11:00 AM from the Funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Ann’s Church, 140 Lynn St., Peabody at 12 Noon. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem, MA. Expressions of sympathy may be made to Alzheimer’s Association, 311 Arsenal St., Watertown, MA 02472 in memory of his wife Eleanor or to the Northeast Animal Shelter, 347 Highland Ave, Salem MA 01970.
