Obituary of Sr. Anne Monica (Mary Elizabeth) Ruane

Sr. Anne Monica Ruane Ipswich---Sr. Anne Monica Ruane, SND, 88, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Friday September 16, 2011 at the Notre Dame Long Term Care Center in Worcester. Born in Salem as Mary Elizabeth Ruane on June 11, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Austin and Sarah (Dunne) Ruane. She grew up in Salem, and graduated from St. James High School. After her initial bachelor degree from Emmanuel College, she received a Master Degree from Notre Dame University in Indiana. Sr. Anne Monica entered the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur on Sept. 1, 1941 and received her education at Emmanuel College in Boston. She received her First Vows on January 30, 1944 and then her Final Vows on July 30, 1949. During her 70 years of religious life, sister served many ministries from a teacher to Principal. She taught in Lawrence, Dorchester, Woburn and North Dartmouth. She began administration as Vice Principal of Bishop Stang High School in Dartmouth, then was Principal at St. Mary’s in Cambridge and Tyngsboro. She took time in Provincial Administration in Ipswich, then 20 years at Notre Dame Academy in Hingham as Principal and then Alumnae Development. She leaves several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Sr. Anne Moncica’s Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday September 19, 2011 at 3:00 PM at Our Lady Queen Chapel, 30 Jeffrey’s Neck Rd., Ipswich, to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend, and may pay their respects on Monday from 1:00 until 3:00 PM prior to the Mass. Burial in Notre Dame Cemetery, Ipswich. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Sisters of Notre Dame retirement fund, 30 Jeffrey’s Neck Rd., Ipswich, MA 01938. Arrangements are by the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, MA 01960.
