Obituary of Ellie (McCaw) Mastroelli

Eleanore Ellie (McCaw) Mastroelli, 72, of Peabody, died early Wednesday morning at her home surrounded by her loving family following a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Malden, she was the daughter of the late Everett and Eva Pearl (Coates) McCaw. She was raised and educated in Malden, graduated from Malden High School, and has lived in Peabody for the past 38 years. After high school, Ellie graduated from the Melrose Wakefield School of Nursing and became a Registered Nurse. She specialized in geriatrics and worked in several nursing homes including Heritage Nursing Home in Danvers and Newhall Nursing Home in Salem and for the past ten years for the P.A.C.E. Program at Buffum St. in Lynn. Ellie was a fun loving person who enjoyed her home and spending time with her family and friends. Ellie is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, John and Clara Mastroelli of Methuen, two daughters and a son-in-law, Sandra Cawthron of Methuen and Julie and Richard Portillo of Portsmouth, RI, a brother, Everett and his wife Suzanne McCaw of Burnham, ME and by her two grandchildren Brandon and Ryan Cawthron. She was the sister of the late Barbara Hull. Visiting hours will be on Saturday from 2:00 until 4:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, followed by a Memorial Service at 4:00 PM to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Burial service will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Ellie’s name to the MGH Gynecologic Oncology Cancer Research Fund, C/O Dr. Richard Penson, 55 Fruit St., Boston, MA 02114
