Joe, you have changed all of our lives in ways never before imagined. You saw something in me that I did not know was there, and you nurtured, pushed and developed me into a champion. You have done the same with countless others, and many have become champions in areas other than fencing. Your generosity of time and spirit made us believe we were invinceable. You taught us "VINI VIDI VICI" or "I came, I saw, I counquered". This was an incredibly empowering motto to use in all parts of our lives. I thank you for everything and hope you know how much you are loved. You will always be my coach!

I love you!

Throughout the years of my youth I heard about the incredible feats of Uncle Jolek. From surviving Pearl Harbor to climbing the Matterhorn to coaching Olympic champions to accomplished artist, he was an idyllic man of iconic strength and accomplishment. Cut out of the same cloth as Ernest Hemingway yet without the vices, he touched the lives of too many to count. He represented what people should strive to be. There are not enough adjectives to describe him. He was a larger than life person who is, and will continue to be, sorely missed by generations.

When my brother and I needed a mentor the most, Joe was there. He bought us our first uniforms, taught us, told us he believed in us, and that we could be champions. Thank you Joe for saving us. Thank you Joe for giving us self worth. Thank you Joe for being a man of honor, character and faith. Thank you for believing in us. Thank you for seeing in us, what we could not see in ourselves. I am forever grateful, and am forever trying to pay forward what you gave to us. You gave me a future. You never asked for anything in return but our best. I love you, I honor you, and I miss you. You were my Coach.
