Obituary of Elizabeth (Bentas) Philipedes

Elizabeth (Bentas) Philipedes, 78, of Salem and formerly of Peabody, died Friday morning at the Cedar Glen Nursing Home in Danvers following a brief illness. She was the devoted wife of the late Leonidas Philipedes who died this past January. Born in Danvers, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Vasiliki (Kiriacopoulos) Bentas. She was raised and educated in Peabody and has lived in Salem for the past 50 years. She was a seamstress and owner of Elizabeth’s Bridal Shop in Danvers for over 35 years. She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Irene and John Stephanides of Peabody and Bessie and Abdol Marashi of Salem, and is also survived by her beloved grandchildren, Theodore and Leonidas Stephanides and Zahra and Eman Marashi. She was the sister of the late Nicholas M. Bentas. Her funeral service will be held on Monday at 11:00 AM at St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church, Paleologos St., Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held prior to the service from 9:30 until 10:30 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody. Burial in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to St. Vasilios Church, 5 Paleologos St., Peabody, MA 01960.
