Obituary of Bernard J. Hurld

Bernard J. Hurld, 78, died suddenly and unexpectedly Friday afternoon at the Salem Hospital following a brief illness. Born in Woburn, he was the son of the late Henry & Isabelle A. (O’ Brien) Hurld. He lived in Stoneham in his youth and attended Stoneham public schools, and graduated from Lynn Enlish High School, Class of 1943. He moved to Peabody where he lived for nearly 40 years. Mr. Hurld went to work at General Electric in Lynn, starting as a Draftsman. He later became a Senior Designer, with Instrument Panels as a specialty of his. He worked for 42 years before retiring in 1986. He was very active in the Union, Local 201 and served as a past Steward. An active man, he loved golf, played mostly at New Meadows in Topsfield and Gannon in Lynn, bowling, hiking and especially enjoyed gourmet cooking. He was an active communicant at St. Ann’ s Church in South Peabody, where he had been a member of the choir. He is survived by a special companion, Carolyn Schlagel of Lynn; a sister, Claire Leary of Mount Vernon, NH; two nieces, Kathleen Leary of Cape Cod and Eileen Smith of NH; two nephews, Michael Leary of CT and Timothy Leary of CO; two grandnieces and two grandnephews, and many devoted friends His Funeral Ceremony will be held on Wednesday at 10:30 AM in the Conway facility at 12 Chestnut St. of the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, Peabody. Relatives and friends kindly invited. A visitation will be held on Tuesday from 6 to 8 PM. Burial will be in St. Patrick’ s Cemetery, Stoneham. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of one’ s choice.
