Obituary of Jose Cunha Santos

Jose Cunha Santos PEABODY—Jose Cunha Santos, 86, beloved husband of the late Eugenia Santos, died late Saturday evening at the Peabody Glen Nursing Home in Peabody following a long illness. Born in Graciosa, Azores, Portugal, he was the son of the late Manuel and Rosa (Cunha) Santos. He lived there for 49 years, then came to the United States in 1974. He lived in Cambridge for five years, then moved to Peabody in 1979 where he lived for the last 32 years. Mr. Santos worked at Bleir Industries in Wakefield until retiring 20 years ago. Jose was a longtime communicant at Our Lady of Fatima Church in Peabody, was a member of the Portuguese-American War Veterans Post 1 of Peabody, where he enjoyed socializing and playing cards with his friends, and often visited the Peter Torigian Community Life Center in Peabody. He is survived by a son, David Santos of Peabody, a daughter and son-in-law, Maria & Rui Ataide of Peabody; a granddaughter, Melissa Ataide of Peabody; two brothers, Antonio Santos of Peabody and Alberto Santos of Graciosa, Azores, Portugal, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death, besides his wife and parents, by two brothers Manuel and David Santos. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather on Wednesday November 2, 2011 at 9 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 AM in Our Lady of Fatima Church, Peabody. A visitation will be held today (Tuesday) from 5 – 8 P.M. Burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem.
