John J. Jack Hendry
PEABODY John J. Jack Hendry, 78, beloved husband of Doris (Cullen) Hendry, died unexpectedly on Friday afternoon at the Salem Hospital.
Born in Chelsea, he was the son of the late William and Theresa (Davidson) Hendry. He lived there in his youth and attended schools there. He graduated from Chelsea High School, Class of 1943. He moved to Peabody, and was among the first in his neighborhood where he lived for the last 45 years.
Mr. Hendry then went on to serve in the United States Navy during World War II.
He attended Perdue University after the war, and got his degree in Engineering. He was employed with Raytheon For many years as an Electrical Engineer, mostly working on the Guidance and Navigational Systems for the Apollo Space Project.
He enjoyed crossword puzzles, Boston sports teams, most notably the Boston Celtics and the games announced by Johnny Most, and had an avocation for politics like his family who was active in the City of Chelsea.
He is survived by: his wife, Doris (Cullen) Hendry of Peabody, with whom he shared 48 years of marriage; five sons and daughters-in-law, John & Susan Hendry and Paul & Claire-Marie Gauthier Hendry, both of Salem, Chris & Mary Ann Hendry of Hampton, NH, Stephen & Mary Hendry of Groveland, and Robert & Janice Hendry of Salem; a daughter and son-in-law, Elaine & Michael De Prisco of Peabody; nine grandchildren, one great-grandchild; one brother, William & Louise Hendry of Weymouth; one sister, Theresa & Robert Borgatti of Vienna, VA; a special niece, Clair Guglia of Danvers; a sister-in-law, Marion Cooney of Danvers.
His funeral will be held on Wednesday at 10 AM from the Conway facility at 12 Chestnut ST., of the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, Peabody, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11 AM in St. John’ s Church, Peabody.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday from 2 to 4 & 7 to 9 P.M.
Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody.
