Robert A. Fecteau
PEABODY—Robert A. Fecteau, 79, beloved husband of Irene (St. Laurent) Fecteau, passed away Saturday morning at the Beverly Hospital in the comforting presence of his family, following a long illness.
Born in Salem, he was the son of the late Joseph and Louise (St. Pierre) Fecteau. He grew up in Salem, and graduated from Salem High School. He went on to study at I.T.T. Technical Institute. He lived in Beverly for many years, and lived in Peabody the last 12 years.
He entered the United States Army where he served during the Korean War.
Mr. Fecteau was a Radio Technician and always worked with two-way radios. He was employed with Lynn Communications for many years, and through consolidation he retired from Bell South in 1997.
Bob, as he was known, was a member of the American Legion of Beverly, the Elks Lodge in Beverly, and was a member of the Catholic Order of Forresters. He was one who enjoyed giving his time for others, and was a volunteer at St. Mary’s Catholic School in Beverly with the Bingo nights, and also with the Peabody Council on Aging and Torigian Community Life Center in Peabody. He enjoyed coin collecting, playing cribbage, doing puzzles, and camping trips with his family. He developed his artistic skills and created Japanese Bunka. He enjoyed trips with his wife during winter staying in Palm Bay, Florida.
He is survived by his wife, Irene (St. Laurent) Fecteau of Peabody, with whom they shared 57 years of marriage; two sons, Robert & Linda Fecteau of Triangle, VA and Richard & Lisa Fecteau of Peabody; three daughters, Laurie & John Douglas of Chelmsford, Teresa & William Terry of Rowley, and Susan Mailhoit of Rowley; 11 grandchildren, Robert & Paloma Fecteau, Christopher & Michelle Fecteau, Jeffrey & Amanda Douglas, Sara & Cole Douglas Harrison, Ashley & Justin Fecteau Severino, Kyra Fecteau, Samantha Fecteau, William Terry, IV, Joshua Terry, Nicole Mailhoit, Sophia Mailhoit; 7 great-grandchildren; a brother, Roger & Nancy Fecteau of Peabody; a brother-in-law, Donat St. Laurent; sisters-in-law Doris Nolan and Marguerite Sinkiewicz, and several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend a Funeral Mass on Saturday November 26, 2011 at 10 AM in St. Adelaide’s Church, Peabody. Urn burial with military honors to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem. Relatives and friends are invited to a Celebration of Bob’s Life, to be held at Danversport Yacht Club following the burial.
