Velia (Modugno) (D’Amico) O’Neil
PEABODY—Velia (Modugno) (D’Amico) O’Neil, 84, beloved wife of the late William T. “Bill” O’Neil, Sr. and the late Frank D’Amico, Sr., died on Monday evening November 21, 2011 at the Lighthouse Nursing Care Center in Revere after a brief illness.
Born in Lynn, she was the daughter of the late Giuseppe and Philomena (Tenaglia) Modugno. She grew up in Lynn, and graduated from Lynn English High School.
Mrs. O’Neil enjoyed her family, and also was President of O’Neil Enterprises, Inc., partnering with her recent late husband, Bill O’Neil, Sr.
Velia was a past President of the Ladies Auxilliary of the Italian-American Club in Peabody, and the Emblem Club with the Elks in Peabody. She enjoyed traveling, playing cards with friends and family, and spending winter months with her husband in Pompano Beach, FL. She will be dearly missed by family and friends, and remembered as a devoted grandmother, and a loving and wonderful wife and mother.
She was blessed for 35 years married to Bill O’Neil, Sr. and 23 years married to Frank D’Amico before their deaths, and is survived by her daughters and sons, Frank N. D’Amico, Jr. and Denise M. Tempesta both of Peabody and Ellen L. O’Neil and her partner John Manning, and William T. “Bill” O’Neil, Jr., all of Peabody; six grandchildren, Frank D’Amico, III of Savanah, GA, Jenna D’Amico of Peabody, Doreen and Sotirious Exarchos of Peabody, Valerie and Peter Sutherland of Lynn, Nicole and John Ternullo of Wakefield, Danielle Tempesta both of Peabody, and Lauren and Tim Furlong of Lynn; 5 great grandchildren, Jessica D’Amico, Madison and Mason Sutherland, Christina D’Amico, Frank D’Amico, IV, and Kyle and Erin Furlong; two sisters, Hilda Zorzonello of Peabody and Flora Kelter of Lynn; a brother, Joseph & his wife Mary Madugno of Lynn; a sister-in-law, Gertrude Madugno of Lynn, a brother-in-law, Edward Zuppio a and many nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death, besides her parents and husbands, by a daughter Doreen Anne D’Amico, a brother Antonio Madugno and sister Eva Zuppio, and brothers-in-law Peter Zorzonello and Walter Kelter.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather on Saturday November 26, 2011 at 10 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11 AM in St. Ann’s Church, Peabody. A visitation will be held on Friday from 5 – 8 P.M. in the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Lynn.
