Obituary of Spera (Arvanitopoulos) Janis

Spera (Arvenitopoulos) Janis, 95, formerly of 18 Walnut St., died Tuesday morning at the Jewish Rehabilitation Center in Swampscott following a brief illness. Born in Patris, Greece, she was the daughter of the late John and Pauline (Pannatopoulis) Arvenitopoulos. She emigrated to the United States, settling in Peabody where she lived for many years. Mrs. Janis worked as a Weaver at Pequot Mills in Salem for 19 years, and then in the Nursery at Salem Hospital for 20 years. She was active in St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church in Peabody, and was a member of the Philoptohos Society, Vision for the Blind, the Salem Council on Aging, and the Peabody Council on Aging. She enjoyed travel, being with friends and family, and was always known to have a positive and uplifting spirit, someone who enjoyed life and inspired others to live life to its fullest. She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, John & Sophie Rodete of Greensboro, NC; one daughter Mary Katsoulis of Swampscott; three grandchildren, Costas & Susan Katsoulis of Simi Valley, CA, Ethel & Richard Fiske of New Orleans, LA, And Elaine Porter of Greensboron, NC; four great-grandchildren, Daniel B. Katsoulis and Matthew Katsoulis, both of Simi Valley, CA, Joshua Porter and Abigail Porter, both of Greensboro, NC. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Fote John Rodete and second husband Dionysius G. Janis, and a grandson, Dionysius Rodete. Her funeral will be held on Friday at 9 AM from the Conway facility at 12 Chestnut St. of the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, Peabody, followed by a Funeral Service at 10 AM in St. Vasilios Church, Peabody, relatives and friends kindly invited. A visitation will be held on Thursday from 4 to 8 PM. Burial will be in Harmony Grove Cemetery, Salem
