Obituary of Stephen T. Buckley, Jr

Stephen T. Buckley Jr., 92, of Peabody, died early Saturday morning at the Cedar Glen Nursing Home in Danvers following a long illness. He was the devoted husband of the late Margaret M. (Hingston) Buckley. Born in Lynn, he was the son of the late Stephen T. Buckley, Sr., and Molly (Twomey) Buckley. He was raised and educated in Lynn and was a graduate of St. Mary’s High School. After high school, Stephen entered the United States Coast Guard and served his country during World War II in Greenland before he was honorably discharged in 1945. Following his military service, Stephen started working for New England Telephone which later became Verizon for over 35 years. He then joined his family business, Larrabee and Hingston in Peabody before he finally retired. Stephen was an accomplished wood carver and he loved to read, drink warm beer and was a great story teller, and was a member of the Rockport Art Association. He was passionate about his religion and loyal follower of the Rosary Group at the Carmelite Chapel in Peabody and will be deeply missed. He is survived by his children, Stephen T. Buckley III, Marie Bishop, Joanne Buckley, all of Peabody, and Timothy Buckley of CA, his daughter-in-law, Susan L. Buckley of Peabody, his sisters, Muriel Neal of Florida and Mary Brown of Cape Cod, his grandchildren, Michael, Patric, and Samantha Bishop, Sara Lojko and Emily Buckley, and also survived by his two great grandchildren, Jonathan and Lauren Lojko. He was the father of the late Robert T. “Beaver” Buckley, and brother of the late Joan Dennehy, Margaret Scanlon, and Katherine Hnytak. His funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 8:00 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody followed by a Funeral Mass at 9:00 AM at St. John’s Church, Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM. Burial will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery, Danvers. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to St. John School, 19 Chestnut St., Peabody, MA 01960.
