Obituary of Carol A. (McKenna) Mead

Carol A. (McKenna) Mead 72 years, wife of Paul C. Mead of Port Charlotte FL and formerly of Peabody, died Sunday morning at her daughter’ s home in Melrose after a lengthy illness. Mrs. Mead was born April 25, 1933 in New Britain CT daughter of the late Hugh and Marion (Murray) McKenna. She was raised in Meriden Connecticut and graduated from Meriden High Scholl class of 1951. She received her B.S. degree in Education in 1954 from Leslie College in Cambridge. In the mid 1960’ s she moved to Massachusetts making her home in Peabody. Mrs. Mead taught elementary school in Connecticut, and in Peabody until her retirement in 1987. Following her retirement she moved to Port Charlotte FL and remained very active as a volunteer from 1991 to 1995 at Murdock Junior High and Port Charlotte Middle Schools. In 1995 she became the operator / coordinator of the Mentor Program at the Port Charlotte High School a position which she held until recently. She devoted her entire life to her family. Mrs. Mead was a member of the Massachusetts Retired Teachers Association. In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, Jeffrey R. Mead of San Francisco CA; 2 daughters, Cynthia Mead of Melrose and Jennifer J. Mead of Waltham; a niece, Ellen Berkholz and a nephew, William Berkholz both of CA and many other nieces and nephews. Pre deceased by her sibling Barbara Berkholz. A funeral service will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. in the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 20 Church St. location, Peabody. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours Wednesday 4 - 8 p.m. Burial in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the Hospice Care Inc., 41 Montvale Ave., Stoneham MA 02180.
