Obituary of James T. Chenery
James T. Chenery 89 years, husband of Margaret L. (Daley) Chenery of Peabody, died Friday morning at the Ledgewood Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center in Beverly following a brief illness.
Mr. Chenery was born February 3, 1916 in Peabody son of the late James and Jane (Bresnahan) Chenery. He was raised in Peabody, graduated from Peabody High School class of 1938 and was a lifelong resident of Peabody. During WWII, he served as a Staff Sergeant in the United States Army Air Corps with the 364th Fighter Group and saw battle in the Air Offensive in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe. He later pursued his education and received a B.S. Degree in Electronics from Northeastern University and his Master in Electronics from Fitchburg State College.
Mr. Chenery taught electronics and math at the Salem Vocational School from 1968 until his retirement in 1990. Prior to this, he was the owner of Chenery’ s Repair Shop in Peabody a business he operated for several years. He was very involved with Peabody youths as an umpire, coach and a Past President of the Peabody Little League and a coordinator of the Pop Warner Football. He was a member of the Thompson Country Club and the AOH Division 18 in Salem. He devoted his life to his family, was an avid golfer and enjoyed traveling.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by 2 daughters, Denise A. Nicastro of Peabody and Irene M. Doane and her significant other John C. Rawson both of Rowley; 5 grandchildren, Timothy Arsenault of Peabody, Dennis Arsenault of Gloucester, Matthew Arsenault of VT, Shannon Burke of Everett and Billie Ann Burke of Peabody; 3 great grandchildren, Sevrin Arsenault of Peabody, Noah Arsenault of VT and Talena Rocci of Everett and several nieces and nephews. He was pre deceased by his siblings, Albert, Charles, Robert and John Chenery, Marie Legro and Frances Mellarkey.
His funeral will be held Tuesday at 9 a.m. from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 20 Church St. location Peabody followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Ann’ s Church, 140 Lynn St., Peabody. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours Monday 4 - 8 p.m. Burial in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody.
