Obituary of Deolinda P Mello

Deolinda P. (Carvalho) Mello, 96, of Peabody, died Thursday afternoon at her home following a brief illness. She was the devoted wife of the late Lourival Mello. Born in Portugal, she was the daughter of the late Manuel and Carlota (Prazares) Carvalho. She was raised in Portugal before she immigrated to the United States with her family and settled in Peabody where she has lived for the past 58 years. Deolinda, along with her husband Lourival, they first opened Mello’s Bakery on Central Street and later on Main Street in Peabody where she worked for over 30 years. With the help of the business, she and her husband were able to help other Portuguese immigrants settle in Peabody and were always willing to lend a hand for help and support for her community. Deolinda is survived by a daughter, Mary Mello-Bruno and her husband Eduardo Bruno of Peabody, her sister, Custodia Machado of Portugal, and by her loving grandchildren, Brenda and Michael O’Hara, Joseph D. Luis, Americo E. and Danielle Mello, Marco Mello, Ceroi and Jennifer Mello, Rieco and Jill Mello, Corei and Renee Mello, and Milu and Sean Sanderson, and is also survived by 18 great grandchildren. She was the mother of the late Americo Mello. Her funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 8:00 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, followed by a Funeral Mass at 9:00 AM at Our Lady of Fatima Church, Walsh Ave, Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting Hours will be held on Monday from 4:00 until 7:00 PM. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem.
