Obituary of Mary F. (Scott) Costello
Mary F. (Scott) Costello, 92, of Peabody, died Friday afternoon at the Twin Oaks Nursing Home following a long illness. She was the devoted wife of the late John H. Costello.
Born in Boston, she was the daughter of the late Daniel and Elizabeth (Mullens) Scott. She was raised and educated in East Boston and was a graduate of Holy Cross Cathedral High School.
After her marriage in 1941, she went to work for Sears Roebuck and Company and following her husband’ s return from the Sea Bee’ s after World War II, moved to Peabody in 1950. She was a homemaker until her husband’ s death in March of 1962, and returned to work at the men’ s department at Filenes at the North Shore Shopping Center.
She is survived by her son, John H. Costello, Jr. of Peabody, a daughter-in-law, Barbara Nash of Cleveland, OH, two nephews and a niece, Daniel J. Costello of East Boston, Donald Starrow and Linda Surette, both of Lynn. She was the loving mother of the late William and Mary Costello, and sister of the late William Scott, Margaret Scott, Elizabeth Costello and Katherine Sodergen.
Her funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 8:00 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 12 Chestnut St., Peabody Facility, followed by a Funeral Mass at 9:00 AM in St. John’ s Church, Peabody to which relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visitation on Monday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM Burial in Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to the Hospice of the North Shore, 10 Elm St., Danvers, MA 01923.
