Joseph A. Mattaliano, 77
PEABODY—Joseph A. Mattaliano, 77, of Peabody, beloved husband of the late Lorraine (Lento) Mattaliano, died suddenly Thursday January 12, 2012, at the North Shore Medical Center—Union Hospital in Lynn.
Born in Sicily, Italy he was the son of the late Pasquale and Maria (Giuffre) Mattaliano. He came to the United States, settling in East Boston where he attended schools and graduated from East Boston High School. He lived in Peabody for 44 years.
After the war, he worked in the Labor Union, Local 151 of Cambridge. He worked most of his life in the Brick Layers & Allied Craftsman Union, Local 3 of Boston, for 25 years of service until retiring 11 years ago.
He was a member of the Italian Club, ICC of Beverly, and also was a bearer of the Madonna Statue in East Boston for the festivals. He enjoyed spending time with his family, and will be remembered as a devoted father and cherished grandfather.
He is survived by two sons, Joseph Mattaliano and William Mattaliano, both of Peabody; a daughter, Sandra & Ted Fitzemeyer of Melrose; five grandchildren, Christina & her husband Brandon Bateman, and Lauren, Alayna, Matthew, and Ariana; a great-grandson, Trevor Bateman; three brothers, Anthony & his wife Netta Mattaliano of Wilmington, Angelo & Josephine Mattaliano of Danvers, and Pasquale “Patsy” & Barbara Mattaliano of East Boston; two sisters, Gracie & Ernie Martinello of Medford and Fannie Esposito of Reading, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death, besides his parents and wife, by a brother Mario Mattaliano.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather on Tuesday at 9 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 AM in St. Adelaide’s Church, Peabody. A visitation will be held on Monday from 4 – 8 P.M. in the funeral home. Burial will be in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody.
