Obituary of Alfred A. Cocca

Alfred A. Al Cocca 75 years, husband of Marie F. (Quirk) Cocca of Peabody, died Thursday evening at the Rosewood Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Peabody. Mr. Cocca was born on November 11, 1929 in Boston son of the late Theodore and Maria (Tremonte) Cocca. He was raised in East Boston and graduated from Dorchester High School class of 1946. He served in the United States Air Force from 1951 to 1954 as an Airman First Class. While in the military he attended Oxford University in England. After his enlistment he pursued his education and received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Accounting from Boston College in 1959. In 1964 he moved to Peabody. Mr. Cocca was employed for 20 years at the Cotting School in Lexington as an accountant until his retirement 1994. Following his retirement and for the next 10 years he became very involved with the Salem State Explorer’ s Institute for learning and retirement. He served for many years on the Finance Committee as St. John the Baptist Parish. As hobbies he enjoyed swimming, reading, traveling, gardening his tomato plants. In addition to his wife of 41 years, he is survived by a son and his wife, Christopher D. and Justine Cocca of Fremont CA; a daughter and her husband, Angela A. and Richard Gill of Peabody; 2 brothers and sisters-in-law, Theodore Ted and Rose Cocca of Everett, Henry Hank and Phyllis Cocca of Winthrop; 3 grandchildren, Matthew Nicholas Cocca of CA, Riley Marie and Samantha Leigh Gill both of Peabody and several nieces and nephews. Pre deceased by a brother Francis Frank Cocca. His funeral will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 20 Church St. location, Peabody followed by a Memorial Mass at 11 a.m. in St. John the Baptist Church, Peabody. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours Tuesday 5 to 8 p.m. Burial of ashes at Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody. Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to St. John School Fire Memorial Fund, 17 Chestnut St., Peabody.
