Obituary of Doris (Shevchuk) Yaskell

Doris (Shevchuk) Yaskell Doris (Shevchuk) Yaskell, 91, beloved wife of the late John Yaskell, Sr., died unexpectedly on Saturday morning February 18, 2012 at the Peabody Glen Nursing Home following a brief illness. Born in Peabody, she was the daughter of the late Peter and Helen (Pasternak) Shevchuk. She was a lifelong resident of the city, and graduated from Peabody High School, Class of 1937. Mrs. Yaskell enjoyed her role as a nurturing wife and mother, and also worked several places. Her first job was with the Ideal Shoe Company in Danvers. She was part of the original staff for the Wardhurst Restaurant in Peabody, where she was a Pizza Cook, and later worked for the Jordan Marsh Restaurant at the North Shore Shopping Center in Peabody. Her last employment was as staff member with the Peabody Council on Aging. Doris enjoyed gatherings of friends and family, and would look forward to Friday night card games. They would play poker, canasta, or cribbage. She was a gifted knitter and made several clothing items for her family or friends. She also played piano, and enjoyed the songs of the American Song Book, standards from the 20’s, 30’s, and 40’s to Big Band Music. She is survived by three sons, John & his wife Susan Yaskell of Groveland, Peter Yaskell of Homestead, FL, and Steven & his wife Ulla Yaskell of Mt. Holly, VT; a daughter, Dorcey & her husband Dr. Richard Winant of Jersey City, NJ; four grandchildren, Larisa Yaskell, Jennifer Yaskell, Anna Yaskell, and Candice Yaskell; two great-grandchildren, Caledonia and Piper; a sister, Catherine Eckhardt of Iowa City, IA, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death, besides her husband and parents, by a sister Alice Pearse. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather on Wednesday February 22, 2012 from 9 – 11 AM in the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, followed by a Funeral Ceremony at 11 AM. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody.
