Obituary of Chester J. Guzowski

Chester J. Guzowski, 83, of Peabody, husband of Janina T. (Sokolowski) Guzowski, died on Friday, February 24, 2012 at Salem Hospital. Mr. Guzowski was born in Peabody on December 18, 1928 son of Joseph and Anna (Galary) Guzowski. He was raised in Peabody and graduated from Peabody High School in 1946. In 1949 he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in Korea as a Corporal with the Btry D 68th AAA Gun Bn APO 660 and being honorably discharged on July 31, 1952. Following his discharge from the Army, Chester was employed as postal mail clerk in Peabody a position he held until his retirement in 1989. He was life member of the Peabody Lodge of Elks # 1409, DAV Chapter 100, American Legion Post 153 and St. Michael’s Society all in Peabody. He devoted his life to creating a life for his children and later was so proud of his grandson and his accomplishments. Most recently his great grandson kept him occupied. In addition to his wife with whom he shared 59 years of marriage, Chester is survived by 3 sons, Chester J. Guzowski, Jr. of Peabody, David J. Guzowski of Danvers and Kenneth J. Guzowski of ME; a grandson Thomas Eicks and his wife Thuy of VA; a great grandson, Thomas Eicks; a sister Jenny Girard and her husband Edward of Peabody, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a daughter Elizabeth “Betty” Eicks and his brothers Anthony and Alexander Guzowski. His funeral will be held on Monday, February 27, 2012 at 11:30 a.m. in the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours are Sunday, February 26, 2012 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
