Obituary of Kenneth B Feeney
Kenneth B. Feeney, 74, of Peabody, died Thursday evening at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers, following a brief illness. He was the devoted husband of Sandra (Innis) Feeney with whom he shared 49 years of marriage.
Born in Salem, he was the son of the late George and Helen (Bird) Feeney. He was raised and educated in Peabody and was a graduate of Peabody High School, class of 1954. While in high school, he captained his golf team and was the recipient of the Flaherty Trophy. He also played on Peabody High School boy’s varsity basketball team.
After high school, Ken enlisted with the United States Navy and served during the Korean War in Japan and was honorably discharged in 1958. While he was in the Navy, he played golf on the Navy Golf Team.
Ken then attended Salem State Teachers College for two years until he started working at the former Warren Five Cents Savings Bank in 1960. He worked there for three years and then moved on the Lexington Savings Bank were he served as treasurer for 7 years. Ken continued his education in the banking field and attended at The American Institute of Banking at Fairfield, Northeastern and Brown Universities.
In 1970, Ken was promoted to Executive Vice President at Winthrop Savings Bank, a position he held for over 10 years until he was appointed President of the Bank in 1980 and served in that capacity for over 13 years until he retired in 1993. He also served as the Chairman of Board of Governors and was on the Board at Winthrop Hospital.
After his retirement from the bank, Ken worked part time over the years for the Essex County Sheriffs Office and at the Meadows Golf course in Peabody.
Ken was a member of Rotary International for over 25 years and served as district governor for five years, and was a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians in Peabody. He also was involved in numerous charities and throughout his career, donating his time and his golfing abilities for many charitable advents.
Ken was an avid golfer and was first a member at the Belleview Country Club in Melrose and then was a long time member at the Tedesco Country Club in Marblehead were he won the senior golf championship.
Besides his loving wife Sandra, he is survived by his three loving children, Christine and her husband Joseph Breslow of Lynnfield, Sean and his wife Renee Feeney of Charlotte, NC and Suzanne and her husband Christopher Ramsay of Wareham, his siblings, Rae Feeney of Salem, wife of the late George Feeney Jr., Jack and his wife Janelle Feeney of Pawleys Island, SC, and Linda and her husband Philip Mahoney of Woburn. He is also survived by his three grandchildren, Sarah and Paul Breslow and Lily Ramsay, and by several nieces and nephews.
His funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 9:00 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM at St. Ann’s Church, Lynn St., Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Monday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody.
