Obituary of Sophie J. (Romanowitz) Bagley

Sophie J (Romanowitz) Bagley, 93, of Maine and formerly of Peabody, died Tuesday morning at the Gosnell Hospice House in Scarborough Maine following a brief illness. She was the devoted wife of the late Charles “Charlie” Bagley. Born in Peabody, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Veronica (Grusrechor) Romanowitz. She was raised and educated in Peabody and has lived in Maine for the past year. Sophie worked 25 years for the city of Peabody School Department, mostly at the South School cafeteria, before she retired many years ago. Sophie enjoyed doing arts and crafts, knitting, crocheting and she loved to cook. Family was very special to her and she enjoyed spending her time with her family, drinking her coffee and sharing with them their stories and endeavors. Sophie is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Eileen Bagley of West Virginia, and Roy and Bonnie Bagley of Gray, ME, a daughter, Dianne Smith of Peabody, four grandchildren, Mark and his wife Diana Bagley, Keith and his wife Alison Bagley, Karen Bagley, and Kelly Anne Smith, four great grandchildren, Nicholas and Hannah Rose Bagley and Evelyn Rose and Noah Bagley, and is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and grand nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Henry Romie, Emil “Mags”, Albert, and Walter Romanovitz, Catherine Judge, and Stella Bettencourt, and was the grandmother of the late Lisa Bagley. Her Funeral Service will be held on Saturday at 9:30 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Friday from 5:00 until 8:00 PM. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to the Hospice of Southern Maine, 180 US Route One, # 1, Scarborough, ME 04070.
