Obituary of Dorothy (DiChiara) Iovanna

Dorothy (DiChiara) Iovanna, 71, of East Boston and Swampscott, wife of the late Frederick E. Iovanna, Sr., died with her family at her side on Sunday, March 4, 2012 at the NSMC / Salem Hospital. Mrs. Iovanna was born in Boston on October 1, 1940 the daughter of the late Americo and Jenny (Barilone) DiChiara. She was raised and educated in Chelsea and resided in Revere before spending most of her life in East Boston. Prior to raising her family, Mrs. Iovanna was employed as a waitress in the Boston area. Dorothy was a loving mother who devoted her life to creating a home for her family and later was so proud of her grandchildren. She enjoyed supporting them with their endeavors and accomplishments. She also enjoyed going to casinos with family and friends. Dorothy is survived by her children and their spouses, Frederick E. Iovanna, Jr., of East Boston, Carmen F. Iovanna of Swampscott with whom she resided, Deborah A. Saggese and Nicholas R. Saggese Ret. BPD of Georgetown, and Patricia E. Marzano and Frederick Marzano BPD of Peabody; 6 grandchildren, Nikkia Iovanna, Brianna & Kristina Marzano, Frederick, Anthony and Tyler Iovanna; 2 brothers, Richard DiChiara of Lowell, John Long and his wife Angela of Temple City, CA; 2 sisters and their spouses, Christine and Dominic Landry of Lynn, and Shirley and John Barilone of Norco, CA; a brother-in-law, Robert Brabant of Tewksbury; many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grandnephews. Dorothy was predeceased by 2 sisters Rosemarie Ling and Angelina Brabant. Her funeral will be held on Monday, March 12, 2012 at 9 a.m. from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Ann Church, 140 Lynn St., Peabody. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours are Sunday, March 11, 2012 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Dorothy’s name to the American Diabetes Association, 330 Congress St., 5th Floor, Boston, MA 02110. Burial in Pine Grove Cemetery, Lynn.
