Obituary of Raymond Ernest Margeson

Raymond Ernest Margeson, 81, of Peabody, died early Friday morning at Salem Hospital following a brief illness. He was the devoted husband of Mary I (Civitarese) Margeson with whom he just shared their 57th anniversary on Monday March 5. Born in Danvers, he was the son of the late Maynard and Ethel Mae (Guppy) Margeson. He was raised and educated in Peabody was a graduate of Peabody High School, class of 1948. Three years after high school, Raymond enlisted with the United States Army and served in the Korean War before he was honorably discharged in January, 1954. After the war, Raymond went to work at the former Charlestown Navy Yard as a pipe coverer and insulator and then after the closing of Charlestown, was transferred to the Portsmouth Ship Yard and retired after 35 years of service. Raymond was a history buff and enjoyed saving newspaper articles concerning the city of Peabody and other historical facts. He was a member of the Veteran of Foreign Wars Club, Post 1011 in Peabody and was a car enthusiast who enjoyed taking leisurely rides with his family on Sunday afternoons and having a picnic. Family meant everything to Raymond and he enjoyed his time he spent with them, especially his grandchildren and all of the endeavors. He will be dearly missed. Besides his loving wife, he is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Jo-Ann and John Fitzgerald of Beverly and Janet and Anthony Avola of Peabody and also by his beloved four grandchildren, John Ray and Jessica Fitzgerald, and Vanessa and Jenel Avola. He was the brother of the late Donald Margeson and step father of the late Donna (Pedra) O’Brien. His Funeral Service will be held on Monday at 10:30 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Sunday from 4:00 until 7:00 PM. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Beverly. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to the American Lung Assoc., 460 Totten Pond Rd, Waltham, MA 02451 or the Boston Children’s Hospital, 300 Longwood Ave, Boston, MA 02115.
