Obituary of Alexandre Borges Vieira

Alexandre Borges Vieira Alexandre Borges Vieira, 65, beloved husband of Maria Filomena Nunes Vieira of Peabody, died Monday morning March 12, 2012 at the North Shore Medical Center—Salem Hospital, following a long illness. Born in Terceira, Azores, Portugal, he was the son of the late Luis and Rita Borges Vieira. He lived there 39 years, then came to the United States, settling in Peabody where he lived for the last 27 years. Mr. Vieira was in the Portuguese Army, and served in the country of Guinea. Later he worked at the US Air Force Base in Terceira while in the Azores. Here in the North Shore, he worked at Bicknell & Fuller before retiring due to health issues. Alexandre was a very active communicant with Our Lady of Fatima Church in Peabody. He was a member of the Azorean Brotherhood & Holy Ghost Society, the Club Luis de Camoes and Our Lady of Help. He enjoyed gardening as he grew amazing vegetables, maintained abundant fruit trees, and adored his enduring grape vines. He was a great cook, and enjoyed inviting the family to gather for a meal at least once a week. He was a very devoted and faithful person who prayed the Rosary twice daily. He is survived by his wife, Maria Filomena Nunes Vieira of Peabody, with whom he shared 40 years of marriage; a daughter and son-in-law, Filomena & Jay Martarano of Peabody; two grandchildren, Jason and Vanessa Martarano both of Peabody; three brothers, Luis Vieira of Terceira, Azores, Francisco Vieira of Canada, and Floriano Vieira of Faial, Azores, Portugal, and several nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather on Thursday March 15, 2012 at 8 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, followed by a Funeral Mass at 9 AM in Our Lady of Fatima Church, Peabody. A visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4 – 8 P.M. in the funeral home. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody.
