Obituary of Helen A. (Micalchuck) Brown

Helen A. (Micalchuck) Dziusko – Brown, 93, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 28, 2012 surrounded by her loving family members at Grosvenor Park, Salem. Helen was born in Peabody on June 13, 1918 the daughter of Paramon and Micalina (Pilipow) Micalchuck. She was raised in Peabody graduated from Peabody High School class of 1936. Helen was a fiercely independent woman who enjoyed 93 years of life, calling many parts of the country home, including Houston, TX and St. Louis, MO. She enjoyed fishing and boating in her younger years, and sang professionally for a short time in various venues throughout the North Shore. Helen was famous among friends and relatives for her knitting of scarves, sweaters, hats and slippers which were her annual Christmas gift to all. No matter how far family members wandered from home, she would remember them with a card reminding them of her love of family. She resided at Wilson Terrace for many years where she had many friends and neighbors. For the past 3 years Grosvenor Park became her home where she had a constant flow of relatives delivering her passion, chocolate and ice cream which she couldn’t get enough of. Helen’s signature phrase was “ what did you bring me” never failed to get a chuckle out of friends and staff. Helen a woman of few words always told it like it was. In later days of her life her come backs from illness amazed all who dealt with her on a daily basis. She will always be loved and remembered by those who knew her. Helen was employed for many years as a leather worker at Rex Leather Company, Modern Leather Company and A.C. Lawrence Leather Company until their closing. In the 1970’s she was employed as a cook and housekeeper at St. John the Baptist Church in Peabody. She was a member of the Peabody Council on Aging and attended at the Peter Torigian Community Life Center. Helen is survived by a loving sister, Lydia Szaban of Salem; her devoted nephews and her loving nieces, Raymond “Reggie” Hamilton, Jr., M.S.P. Ret., and his wife Barbara, Leona J. Hamilton all of Salem, Nadine C. Hamilton of Peabody, Mary Ann and Carol Micalchuck both of Peabody, and Michael Micalchuck of Danvers; many grand nieces and grand nephews, and a sister-in-law Alice Micalchuck of Peabody; She was predeceased by her husband, William J. Dziusko who she loved dearly, her siblings, Sonia Hamilton, Peter, John, Walter, George, Michael and infant Nellie Micalchuck and her brother-in-law, Kenneth Szaban. Her funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 3, 2012 at 11:30 a.m. in the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited.
