Obituary of Joao Fernandes Correia

Joao Fernandes Correia PEABODY-Joao Fernandes Correia, 54, beloved husband of Josefina Couceiro Correia of Peabody, died unexpectedly on Monday April 9, 2012 at the North Shore Medical Center—Salem Hospital. Born in Terceira, Azores, Portugal, he was the son of the late Antonio and Maria de Fatima Souza Correia. He grew up in Terceira, and worked as a Food Server in a restaurant there. He moved to the United States, settling in Peabody where he lived for the last 24 years. He worked in the laundry department at the North Shore Medical Center—Salem Hospital for several years. Joao enjoyed being outside tending to his flower and vegetable gardens. He loved cooking, was handy around the house and liked doing inside painting. He played an instrument and loved Portuguese Folk Music and dancing. He was a member of the Azorean Brotherhood of the Holy Ghost, and the Club Luis de Camoes of Peabody. He is survived by his wife, Josefina Couceiro Correia of Peabody, with whom he shared 23 years of marriage; a son, Mike Fernandes Correia of Peabody; two brothers, Paul & his wife Marina Correia of Peabody and Antonio Manuel Correia of Portugal; his aunts and uncles, Lucia & her husband Mario Costa and Julio Couceiro all of Peabody; sisters-in-law Maria & her husband Mario da Rosa and Adelaide Gomes all of Peabody, six nieces, one nephew, and many cousins. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather on Friday at 8 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, followed by a Funeral Mass at 9 AM in Our Lady of Fatima Church, Peabody. A visitation will be held on Thursday from 5 – 8 P.M. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem.
