Obituary of Mary (Stepenuck) Vercellone

Mary (Stepenuck) Vercellone PEABODY—Mary (Stepenuck) Vercellone, 92, beloved wife of the late Mario P. Vercellone, died peacefully in her sleep on Saturday April 14, 2012, at the Peabody Glen Skilled Nursing Center in Peabody. Born in Chelsea, she was the daughter of the late Ignatius and Katherine (Bury) Stepenuck. She grew up in Peabody and was a lifelong resident of the city. She had worked at Kappy’s Liquors in Peabody for 10 years. Besides enjoying her nurturing role of homemaker as a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother she was a Cosmetologist working from her home for over 30 years. Mary was a very faithful and devoted member of St. Nicholas Russian Orthodox Church in Salem all her life. She sang in the choir since she was 13 years of age, and was known for her Soprano voice. She was a polling agent with the City of Peabody Elections Board for 20 years, volunteered for Beano at the Italian-American Club in Peabody for decades, and she was in a knitting group at the Council on Aging & Torigian Community Life Center. She knitted many sweaters for family and friends. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends. She is survived by a son, Joseph & his wife Martha Vercellone of Dothan, AL; five grandchildren, Tara & her husband Sangam Charotari of Philadelphia, PA, Bridget & her husband Patrick Kinard of Nolensville, TN, Meghan Vercellone of Jacksonville, FL, Juliann & her husband Dr. Ryan Gnandt of Chula Vista, CA, and Jonathan Zetts of Youngstown, OH; six great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death, besides her parents and husband, by a sister Ann Durand and brothers John and William “Pat” Stepenuck. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather on Friday April 20, 2012 at 9 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, followed by a Funeral Service at 10 AM in St. Nicholas Russian Orthodox Church, Salem. A visitation will be held on Thursday from 5 – 8 P.M., with the Panikhida Service at 7 P.M. . Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody. Memorial donations may be made to St. Nicholas Russian Orthodox Church, 64 Forrester St. Salem, MA 01970.
