Obituary of Mary Ann (Tavares) Almeida
Mary Ann (Tavares) Almeida, 81, of Peabody, wife of the late Antonio A. Almeida, died with her family at her side on Tuesday, April 17, 2012 at Sunrise at Gardner Park in Peabody.
Mrs. Almeida was born in Peabody on November 15, 1930 the daughter of the late Joseph and Laurentina (Silva) Tavares. She was raised in Peabody and graduated from Peabody High School class of 1948. In 1959, the family moved to Danvers where she resided until 1992, then returning to Peabody.
Mary was employed for 30 years in the printing department at Devcon Corporation until her retirement in 2002. During this time she also was a hairdresser. Mary was a loving mother who devoted her life creating a home for her family, and later was so proud of her grandchildren and their accomplishments. In recent years she was so fond of her 5 cherished great grandchildren. She enjoyed reading, crocheting, gardening and doing puzzles.
Mary is survived by her children and their spouses, Kathleen M. and Paul Robertson of Middleton, MaryAnn and Richard Waldron of Danvers, Tony and Cheryl Almeida of Orlando, FL, and Don and Barbara Almeida of Peabody; 2 brothers, George Tavares and his wife Iona of Taunton, and Manuel Tavares of FL; a sister, Grace Madruga of Peabody; 9 grandchildren, Scott and Thomas Robertson, Bill and LauraLee Waldron, Nicole and Michael Almeida, Leah Almeida, Taylor and Kimberly Almeida; 5 great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. She was predeceased by her children James Almeida and Donna Almeida and her siblings Arthur, William and Joseph Tavares, and Alice DuFour.
Her funeral will be held on Friday, April 20, 2012 at 10 a.m. from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 1 Margin St., Peabody. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited.
