Obituary of Edwina H. (Boguszewski) Balkus

Edwina Helen (Boguszewski) Balkus, 85, of South Peabody, died unexpectedly Friday at Salem Hospital. She was the wife of Walter Balkus with whom she shared 62 years of marriage. She was born in Chelsea, Ma on September 18, 1920, the daughter of the late Nicholas and Helen (Psybilski) Boguszewski and had attended St. Stanislaus Grammar School and Chelsea High School. Following her marriage to her husband Walter in 1943, they moved to Peabody where they have resided for the past 62 years. She had been an inspector at the GTE Sylvania at the Loring Avenue, Salem plant for 20 years prior to her retirement. She loved music and dancing and dining out. She had been a member of the Polish American War Veterans Ladies auxiliary of Chelsea. Surviving her besides her husband are a daughter , Lynne Balkus-Lepone and her husband Jerry Lepone of Peabody, a brother, Roman Ray Bogus of Everett, a sister, Julia Benirowski of Stoughton, 2 sister-in-laws, Isabel King and Anne Balkus both of Peabody and many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Alfred Boguszewski and Sabina Syngavewski. A Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 12 Chestnut St., Peabody. Her funeral will be held on Wednesday at 9:00 a.m. from the Funeral Home followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Ann’ s Church, So. Peabody at 10:00 AM.. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the charity of your choice.
