Obituary of John F. "Quirky" Quirk

John F. “Quirky” Quirk PEABODY—John F. “ Quirky” Quirk, 71, died unexpectedly at his home on Tuesday morning April 24, 2012. Born in Peabody, he was the son of the late Frank E. and Florence (Dutcher) Quirk. He graduated from Peabody High School, and was a lifelong resident of the city. Mr. Quirk was a Plumber, and worked in the family business Frank E. Quirk & Sons until retiring 22 years ago. He maintained his Pipe Fitters license. He was in the United States Navy, a part of the Sea Bees in peacetime just before the Vietnam War. John was a member of the A.O.H., Division 11 of Peabody. He was a Special Police Officer in Peabody, and was a member of the Emerald Society. He also volunteered with the Jimmy Fund Old Timers Baseball Game on Labor Day for many years. He built his own home, and was known as “Mr Fix-it” because he was handy with things around the home. He enjoyed swimming, helped people in any way he could, was a devoted father and grandfather, and loved animals including his beloved dog Bert, a black lab & bloodhound mix who just passed yesterday. He is survived by a daughter, Kelly & her husband Norton Hazel, II of Peabody; two grandsons, Zachary and Brad Hazel of Peabody; two sisters, Marie Cocca of Peabody and Julie Kozak of VA, several nieces and nephews, and a good friend Ricky Cunha of Peabody as well as many other friends. He was the former husband of Virginia (Dupuis) Quirk of Peabody, and was preceded in death by his brothers Leo and Frank Quirk, Jr. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather on Saturday at 10 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11 AM in St. John the Baptist Church, Peabody. Visiting hours will be held on Friday from 4 – 8 P.M. Burial will be in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody. Memorial donations may be made to the Northeast Veterinary Hospital, 29 Lowell St., Peabody, MA 01960 which is NOT a tax deduction, or to the Jimmy Fund, 10 Brookline Place West, 6th Floor, Brookline, MA 02445-7226.
