Obituary of Frank DeCarlo

Former Owner Barbi-Dee Cleansers Francis “Frank” DeCarlo, 79, beloved husband of Ann M. (Cazzara) DeCarlo, died unexpectedly on Monday April 23, 2012 at the North Broward Hospital in Deerfield Beach, FL. Born in Beverly, he was the son of the late Louis and Jennie (Puglia) DeCarlo. He grew up there, and graduated from Beverly High School. He was drafted into the United States Army, where he served a Patriotic duty during the Korean War. Upon returing after the war, he started operating his business, Barbi-Dee Cleansers at the strip mall that also hosted Purity Supreme on Lowell St. in Peabody. He retired in early 2000 after 40 years in business. Frank enjoyed a good social gathering with friends and family. He enjoyed horse racing, and owned a Thoroughbred named “Hold Your Ticket” which was a winner. He loved visits to Saratoga Downs, and many other tracks. He was a sports fan for all the Boston teams. He was a member of the American Legion of Middleton, and the Italian-American Club in Beverly. He started spending time in Florida in retirement, and lived in the Deerfield Beach area. He will be remembered fondly, as his character was unblemished, his willpower unparalleled, and his honesty will forever be remembered by all who knew him He is survived by his wife Ann M. (Cazzara) DeCarlo of Peabody and Deerfield Beach, FL, with whom he shared 53 years of marriage; a daughter, Dianne & her husband William Whitcomb of Peabody; three grandchildren, Dr. Angela & her husband Bryan Jacques of Boston, Vanessa Lightbown of Peabody and Brianna Lightbown of Marietta, GA; two sisters, Tina Manitakos of Peabody, and Linda Sahlin of FL; five sisters-in-law, Gloria and Mary Cazzara of Inverness, FL, Barbara & her husband Frank Gelineau of Salem, Paula Burnham of NH, and Carol DeCarlo of Peabody, and several nieces, nephews, and great-nieces & great-nephews, and many cousins and friends. He was preceded in death, besides his parents, by two brothers Louis “Sonny” DeCarlo and Robert DeCarlo. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend a visitation on Saturday May 12, 2012 from 10:30 AM to AM in the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, followed by a Funeral Service at 11:30 AM in the funeral home. Urn burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
