Obituary of Eileen E. (Elsen) Bagley

Eileen E. (Elsen) Bagley PEABODY—Eileen E. (Elsen) Bagley of Peabody, died on May 13, 2012 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers, MA following a lengthy illness. She was 96 years old. She is survived by her daughter, Carol B. Langer, of Bedford, MA; son Mark E. Bagley, of Madison, MS; nephews Robert E. Smith of Washington, DC and Brian R. Smith of Glastonbury, CT; niece Diane Brook of Cardiff, Wales and brother-in-law Julian C. Smith of Ithaca, NY. Mrs. Bagley was pre-deceased by her husband of 50 years, Seaborn E. "Ed" Bagley, Jr. of Scotch Plains, NJ; parents Daniel and Florence Elsen of Wilmington, DE, sister Joan E. Smith of Ithaca, NY and brother William Elsen, who died in infancy. Eileen moved to Brooksby Village retirement community in 2001 as one of its first residents, and made many good friends there. She was an active member of the Brooksby Village Catholic Council and a frequent reader at mass before her illness limited her ability to participate. Prior to moving to Massachusetts she was active in the Scotch Plains, NJ Women's Club and a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary parish. Son Mark said his mother displayed promise as a classical pianist in her youth, but later devoted herself completely to raising a family. She took great pride in her role as a homemaker and excelled at needlework, creating many lovely needlepoint pieces and knitted sweaters for her family. There will be a Funeral Mass in the chapel at Brooksby Village at 2 PM on Thursday May 17, 2012 followed by a reception. Interment at St. Gertrude Cemetery in Colonia, NJ will be private.
