Peabody Businessman, Founder of Mr. G’ s Pizza & Community Supporter
David F. Gabriel, 78, affectionately known as Mr. G , beloved husband of the late Mary (Sullivan) died unexpectedly on Friday at the Lahey Clinic Medical Center Hospital in Burlington.
Born in Boston, he was the son of the late Michael and Mary (Salem) Gabriel. He lived there in his youth and attended Boston English High School.
Mr. Gabriel honored his patriotic duty with service in the United States Navy during World War II.
Upon returning Stateside, he worked for General Electric, Appliance Division for about 10 years. He then ran Atomic Supply which took Appliance Sales, Parts and Service.
After that venture, he co-founded along with his late wife, Mary, Mr. G’ s Pizza on Lowell ST. at the Lowe Mart Plaza.
He was very involved supporting many in the community either with his time or contributions, from various religious orders to youth causes, and numerous charity organizations. He enjoyed the adventure of life, visited Foxwoods for gaming, loved Big Band Swing Jazz music and dancing with his wife at Coconut Grove Club, and had a gift of using his affable personality to make all who knew him feel special.
Highest in priority to him was his love for his closest friends and family, especially his grandchildren.
He will be dearly missed by his family, including: three sons and two daughters-in-law, Dr. David & Eloise Gabriel of Peabody, James Gabriel of Peabody & his former wife Rozan Debbas of San Diego, Dan Gabriel of San Diego; a daughter and son-in-law, Kathy & Mark DeLomba of Danvers; eight grandchildren, Terri, Becky, Pam, and David Gabriel of Peabody, Joey and Jamie Gabriel of San Diego, and Danny and Karla DeLomba of Danvers; two sisters, Mary Frances Lambiase of Weymouth, and Anne & Ralph Porras of FL, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary (Sullivan) Gabriel in January this year, his brother and sister-in-law, George M. & Marie Gabriel, sisters Amelia Anderson and Betty & Tom Colarusso, and Louis Anthony Gabriel
His funeral will be held on Wednesday at 10 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 12 Chestnut St. location, Peabody, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11 AM in St. John’ s Church, Peabody, to which relatives and friends are kindly invited. A visitation will be held on Monday from 5 to 8 P.M. AND Tuesday 4 to 8 P.M. Burial will be in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody. Memorial donations may be made to Joslyn Diabetes Center, One Joslin Place, Boston, MA 02215 .
