Obituary of Patricia Catherine (Davis) Sherman
Sherman, Patricia Catherine (Davis), age 68, of Swampscott, passed away peacefully on May 27, after a brief illness. She is survived by her beloved husband of 28 years, John R. Sherman, a retired law professor, and by her brother, Thomas M. Davis, a ret. Fire captain of Peabody and her sister, Francine Harryman and her husband Thomas of Muskeegan, Michigan. Also by her two loved and loving cats, Ally and Val.
She is also survived by her cousins, Kathy Jacobitz, Cynthia Carlsted and Loretta Stafford. Also by her very dear and special friend, Linda Hinchey and her wonderful neighbor, Sheila Sullivan and her gardening friend, Wendy Conaty and her daughter, Maeve. Also by her loving and supportive neighbors, Elaina and Howard Seidel and Dennis and Connie Callahan.
Patricia was born in Peabody and graduated from St. John’s High School, She worked for many years as a legal secretary a the Boston Law Firm of Hale and Dorr. She and her husband were seasoned travelers and avid fans of Thoroughbred horse racing. For over 20 years they went to Saratoga each year for the races and were frequent visitors to Suffolk Downs. Patricia was an enthusiastic gardener and her home was a beautiful tribute to her skill. She was also a skilled knitter and an active member of the Knitting Circle at the Swampscott Senior Center. Many of her pieces were auctioned for charities. She was active at the Union Club of Boston in its sports committee and the social life that she shared with her husband and the many, many friends she had there.
Speaking of her, her husband, John, said: “This was a good, good person who helped many people quietly and without anyone knowing. She really befriended all those who know her.”
Calling hours will be on Wednesday from 4:00 until 7:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 82 Lynn St., Peabody facility. There will be a memorial service on Thursday at 10:30 AM at the Funeral Home. Please do not send flowers. Instead, if you will, please make a donation in Patricia’s name to the Northeast Animal Shelter, 347 Highland Ave., Salem, MA 01970. This was Patricia’s special charity as she was deeply concerned about the animals.
