Obituary of Helen M. (Caulfield) Mulherin

Helen M. (Caulfield) Mulherin, 84, a long time Peabody resident, died Monday, June 4, 2012 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers with her family by her side after a prolonged illness. She was the wife of the late Joseph G. Mulherin. Helen was born in Peabody on April 26, 1928, the daughter of the late James and Katherine (Gallagher) Caulfield and had resided all of her life in Peabody. Following her graduation from Peabody High School, she worked as a telephone operator with the N.E. Tel. and Tel. Co for her entire career of 40 years. Helen was very active in St. John the Baptist Church in Peabody as a Eucharistic minister and also sang in the choir there. She had a love of outdoor activities and participated in golf, skiing, hiking and spending time in the summer at Lake Winnipesaukee in Alton Bay, NH. She traveled extensively throughout her life with her sisters and friends. She is survived by two sons and daughters –in –law, Edward and Paula Mulherin of Foxborough, MA and William and Tammy Mulherin of Laconia, NH, a daughter and son-in-law, Joan and Richard Tomlins of Swampscott, MA, her sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary and Donald Coombs of Peabody, Margaret and James Murrin of Dorchester, and Nancy Hearns of Severna Park, MD, a sister-in-law, Angela Caulfield of Peabody, her six grandchildren, Joseph and Rory Mulherin, Mary Anna, Amanda and Katie Mulherin and Emma Tomlins, a great granddaughter, Alysa Par’e and many nieces, nephews and grand nieces and grand nephews. She was the sister of the late James and Buddy Caulfield and Catherine Lawlor. A Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 82 Lynn St., Peabody facility. Her funeral will be held on Thursday at 10:00 AM from the funeral home followed by a Funeral Mass in St. John’s the Baptist Church, Chestnut St., Peabody at 11:00 AM. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem,. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 311 Arsenal St., Watertown, MA 02472 or to Hospice of the North Shore, 75 Sylvan St., Suite B-102, and Danvers, MA 01923 in her memory.
