Obituary of William D. Callahan, Jr
William D. Callaham Jr., 64, of Windham, NH and formerly of Peabody, died unexpectedly Wednesday at his home. He was the beloved husband of Donna (Shedden) Callahan, with whom he just recently celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary.
Born in Peabody, he was the son of the late William D. Callahan, Sr., and Stella (Lickewicz) Callahan. He was raised and educated in Peabody and was a graduate of PeabodyHigh School in 1965. He continued his education and received a certificate in drafting from the MassachusettsTrade School in Boston. He also attended MerrimacCollege before receiving his bachelor’s degree in marketing from New HampshireCollege.
From there, William became a Salesman for the Nabisco Company, and later, before his retirement, he was a loan originator for First New England Mortgage Company. He has lived in Windham, NH for the past 34 years.
William enjoyed skiing in his younger days, and just like his father, he coached Little League baseball for the Giants and served as President of the league for many years. He enjoyed playing baseball and hockey, golfing, reading, joke telling, puzzles, and traveling; his favorite travels included cruises and his annual family trips down the Cape for the 4th of July. His perseverance in the face of adversity and his ability to instantly brighten any room will be forever remembered.
Besides his beloved wife Donna, he is survived by his son William “Bill” D. Callahan III of Boston; his two sisters, Virginia and her husband Arthur Dunford of Burlington and Elizabeth “Betty” Anthony of Peabody; his mother-in-law, Ethel (Mulley) Shedden of Peabody; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was the brother of the late Daniel D. Callahan.
His funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 9:00 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM at St. Ann’s Church, Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be on Monday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM. Burial will be in PuritanLawnMemorial Park, Peabody. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to, C/O William D.
