Obituary of William Joseph Jenkins
William J. Jenkins, 85, of Peabody, died early Thursday morning, June 21, 2012 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers with his family by his side. He was the devoted husband Geraldine (Rapa) Jenkins with whom he shared 50 years of marriage.
William was born in South Boston on September 3, 1926, the son of the late James P. and Margaret (Kelly) Jenkins and was raised and educated there.
He entered the US Navy during WW II serving overseas prior to his discharge in 1946. Bill then entered Boston College and received a BA and BS degree in 1952.
He had been employed as the Product Control Manager for 26 years at the Vacuum Chamber Industries in Somerville and had been a member of the APICS Professional Society.
William was a lover of the water and enjoyed boating and fishing and had been a life member and former Vice Commodore of the Columbia Yacht Club in So. Boston. He enjoyed listening to Classical Music and with his wife traveled half way around the world. He had been a member of the US LST Association of US Navy and the LST Memorial Association. He enjoyed reading Civil War stories and Roman History. While living in Peabody, he was a member of St. John the BaptistChurch and the Sodality, the Golden Agers and volunteered at the Peabody Senior Center.
He is survived by his wife, Geraldine, of Peabody, a nephew, Thomas and his wife Dawn Jenkins of Quincy, a niece, Frances Pirpiris of Norwood, his brother and sisters-in-law, Beverly and her husband John Faro of Dandille, NH, Louis Rapa of Seneca Falls, NY, Sandra Bonaccorsi of Lawrence, MA and Thelma and her husband Earl Hodges of Naples, Fl, and a host of grand nieces , grand nephews and friends. He was the brother of the late James and his wife Eileen Jenkins and Mary Jenkins.
A Visitation will be held on Sunday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 82 Lynn St., Peabody facility. His funeral will be held on Monday, June 25, at 10:00 AM from the Funeral Home followed by a Funeral Mass in St. John the Baptist Church, Peabody at 11:00 AM. Burial will be in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody. Expressions of sympathy may be made to Hospice of No Shore, 75 Sylvan St., Suite 102 B, Danvers, MA 01923 or to Roger Trask Day Care Center, 79 Central St., Peabody, MA 01960 in his memory.
