Obituary of Joseph F. Sharkey

Joseph F. Sharkey PEABODY—Joseph F. Sharkey, 85, husband of the late Marion (Harris) Sharkey, died peacefully on Monday July 16, 2012 at the Pilgrim Rehab & Skilled Nursing Center in Peabody, following a long illness. Born in Charlestown, he was the son of the late Peter and Mary (O’Malley) Sharkey. He grew up there and attended schools there. He entered into the United States Army during World War II. He was stationed on Iwo Jima once the U.S. occupied the island. Mr. Sharkey was an Electrician at the Boston Naval Yard in Charlestown for a career that spanned 30 years. He was a hardworking man who was dedicated to his family, and was known to work 80 hours a week for over 20 years. He is survived by his sons and daughters, including Susan Sharkey of Arcadia, FL, Sherrill Zeuli & her husband Robert of Peabody, and Kevin Sharkey & his wife Jody of Peabody; his grandchildren, Robert Zeuli & his wife Enza, Caitlin Zeuli, Allison Sharkey, Matthew Sharkey, and Alexandria Sharkey; two great-grandchildren, Ivana Zeuli and Kegan Casady; a sister Veronica “Vonnie” Brown of Billerica, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death, besides his parents and wife, by a son Stephen Sharkey, grandson Chris Sharkey, and sister Ann Burke. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather on Saturday at 9 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 AM in St. Adelaide’s Church, Peabody. A visitation will be held on Friday from 5 – 8 P.M. in the funeral home. Burial will be in Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
