Obituary of Helen C. (Vasiles) Mandros

Helen C. (Vasiles) Mandros, 84, of Whitman, MA and formerly of Peabody, died Thursday at her home with her family by her side. She was the wife of the late James Mandros. She was born in Peabody, MA on September 28, 1927, the daughter of the late Christos and Bessie (Kokas) Vasiles and was raised and resided here most of her live before moving to Whitman 10 years ago. She, along with her husband, owned and operated the Deli Mart in Peabody Square for over 20 years. Later, she was employed at the Cole Hersee Company in South Boston prior to her retirement. Helen enjoyed cooking, crossword puzzles and loved to read novels. She enjoyed spending summers on Cape Cod. She had been a member of Northern Epirus Society of Greater Boston and for many years a member of St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church, Peabody and St. John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church in Boston. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Stacey and Kenneth Dowd of Whitman, a granddaughter, Victoria Dowd of Whitman, a brother, Steven “Spike” Vasilis of Beverly and many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late William Vasiles. A Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 10:30 until 11:30 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 82 Lynn St., Peabody facility followed by her Funeral Service there at 11:30 AM with Rev. Christopher Foustoukos officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 480 Pleasant St., Watertown, MA 02472 in her memory.
