Obituary of Carolina A. "Cory" (Schram) Girolimon

Carolina A. “Cory” (Schram) Girolimon, 83, wife of Louis P. Girolimon, died surrounded by her family on Sunday, August 5, 2012 at Lahey Hospital in Burlington after suffering an ill turn at home. Cory was born in Antwerp, Belgium, on November 29, 1928, the daughter of the late Franciscus and Dymphna (VanWolput) Schram. She was raised and educated in Belgium. While playing the drums at a local Cafe in Belgium Cory met Louis in December of 1944, and in 1945 she immigrated to the United States as a war bride making her home in Peabody. Cory dedicated her entire life to creating a home for her family and was so proud of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. In 1957, she and her 3 children traveled to Belgium to spend time with her family. Cory was an accomplished musician who played drums, the clarinet and saxophone. Many Peabody residents will remember Cory who began serving at the polls in the early 1970’s and commence as polling precinct warden at the special Peabody Mayoral Election held on November 7, 1978, a position she held until now. As hobbies, she enjoyed knitting, crocheting afghans, needle point and cooking. In addition to her husband Louis with whom she shared 66 years of marriage, Cory is survived by her children and their spouses, Dina R. and Frederick Howcroft, and Peabody Police Sergeant Richard F. and Paula Girolimon all of Peabody; her grandchildren and their spouse, Caroline Talbot and State Trooper Brian Talbot of Lynn, Nicole and Allan Arico, Frederick L. Howcroft, Hamilton Patrolman Michael Girolimon, Danielle Girolimon all of Peabody and Diana and Corey Ricardo of Wakefield; 5 great grandchildren, 2 sisters-in-law, Irene Schram-Veldeman of Deurne, Belgium and Clara D’Amico of Oakville, CT; many nieces and nephews. Cory was a Gold Star mother who lost her son Lance Corporal Louis M. Girolimon who was killed in Vietnam on June 10, 1968 and was predeceased by her siblings, Jeanne Schram, Constant Schram and Louis Schram. Cory’s funeral will be held on Thursday, August 9, 2012 at 10 a.m. from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 20 Church St., (downtown next to St. John’s Church & Peabody City Hall ) Peabody followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in St. John the Baptist Church, 16 Church St., Peabody.
