Obituary of Joseph S. Monico
Joseph S. Monico, 81, of South Peabody, died peacefully early Wednesday morning at his residence with his family at his side. He was the devoted husband of 57 years to Isabel (Guidara) Monico. He was born in Boston on March 30, 1931, the son of the late Salvatore and Mary (Costello) Monico and was raised and educated in Saugus. He and his wife had resided in Lynn for 6 years before moving to Peabody50 years ago.
Joe entered the US Army in 1952 during the Korean War serving two years prior to his Discharge as a Sergeant in 1954.
Joseph had been employed with the Essex County Court House in Salem for many years before retiring as supervisor of maintenance in 1993. He then had time to enjoy taking bus trips throughout the Northeast and excursions to Florida with his wife. He was an avid New England Patriots Football fan and loved to work in his garden. He was a longtime communicant of St. Ann’s Church and his favorite time was spent playing with and enjoying his grandchildren and great grandchildren who will miss him so much.
Surviving him besides his wife are his three daughters and sons-in-law, Janet and Paul Legault, Karen and Shawn Silke and Jill and Steven Delaney all of Peabody, a brother, Retired Lynn Fireman John Monico of Lake Suzie, Florida, his cherished grandchildren, Danielle and her husband Matthew Wilkins, Michelle Silke, Derek and Melanie Delaney, and Daniel O’Brien and Noelle O”Brien all of Peabody, his two great granddaughters, Molly and Noella Wilkins and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Mary Lanza, Saugus Police Officers James and Richard Monico, Josephine Hatch and Salvatore and Robert Monico.
A Visitation will be held on Sunday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 82 Lynn St., Peabody facility. His funeral will be held on Monday at 9:00 AM from the Funeral Home followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Ann’s Church, 140 Lynn St., Peabody at 10:00 AM. Burial will be in St. JosephCemetery, Lynn. Expressions of sympathy may be made to Partners Health Care at Home, 125 Nashua St., 10th Fl., Boston, MA 02114, or Hospice of No Shore, 75 Sylvan St., Suite 102B, Danvers, MA 01923 or to the Peabody Senior Center, 79 Central St., Peabody, MA 01960 in his memory.
